I just upgraded my M1330 to 8.04 and noticed that Synergy was unusable because of lag.
This happened when running quicksynergy as a normal user. However you can workaround by running the synergy client as root.
sudo synergyc xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

THANKS! Worked like a charm! Now my Synergy is no longer laggy between windows and ubuntu.
SynergyServer = WindowsXPPro 32Bit
SynergyClient = Ubuntu 8.04LTS
Awesome! I’ve been using synergy between XP and Ubuntu for a long time now, and 8.04 broke it…. your solution worked perfectly.
Thanks!
That’s cool, works like a charm - ta much!
Have also noticed that my at symbol has turned into a Ω (omega) - I’m writing this using synergy and had to get an @ symbol from the character map. I’ve also noticed that to repeatedly click buttons, you have to move the mouse off the button then back over it. Both these might be quirks of the setup (xubuntu server, xfce, and Ubuntu studio client, gnome…) I’m also using the SSH trick mentioned in the man page, but that is probably not an issue.
Ho hum. Synergy is great, regardless of these small glitches…
Thanks! Running synergy as root helped the lag problem. I was almost ready to just try another distro.
Thanks so much! My synergy lag issue / problem was solved immediately by running the client as root.
I’m using ssh to tunnel synergy and there is some lag, No pausing and then continuing but just general lagging behind (around 1 second). Before updating ubuntu there was no lag.
If I do not use SSH tunnel, it’s all fine!
server: ubuntu 8.10 intrepid ibex, opensshd
client: windows XP, putty
Same here. Worked like a charm.
Worked for me! Right as I was about to give up.
Will running the Synergy server as root increase performance in general? I’m running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and tunneling 24800 over ssh. I’ve noticed some general lag in the mouse and would love to eliminate it. Thanks.
Worked for me, too.
